Glenn Hoddle praised the ‘absolutely top-notch’ pass from Tanguy Ndombele during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against ten-man Liverpool on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (19/12/21 at 5:25 pm).

The 24-year-old supplied a pin-point through ball for Kane to score the opening goal in an entertaining affair in north London.

It was a relentless and all-action start from Spurs, who will wonder how they didn’t score more than just the one goal in the first half.

Tottenham, who hadn’t played a competitive game for two weeks because of COVID postponements, were the better side during the first 45 minutes – and probably a bit more.

In a crazy end to the game, Andy Robertson put his side ahead, then Heung-Min Son pounced on an Alisson Becker mistake to level the scores, before the Scotsman was shown a straight red – via VAR – for his kick on Emerson Royal.

Nonetheless, Hoddle praised Ndombele, who went off before Liverpool scored their second goal, and the role he played in Kane’s goal.

“This is a wonderful pass,” said Hoddle. “It allows Harry Kane not to touch the ball. He is now hitting a ball now that with his first touch.

“What a finish from Harry. He’s been waiting and waiting for that, but that is a wonderful finish – and that pass was absolutely top-notch.”

Antonio Conte hasn’t been at Tottenham for much long, but the manner in which his team are playing is a stark difference from what they were producing under Nuno Espirito Santo.

What is perhaps more impressive is what they are doing without the ball and the high-level pressing from the team as a whole.

Spurs are suffocating their opponents and not just any ordinary opponent, but one of the best teams in Europe right now.

If they produce that over the course of the next six months, then there is no reason why they shouldn’t be pushing for those Champions League spots.
