Isak Solberg has admitted that he is ‘absolutely thrilled’ to sign a first ever professional contract with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, speaking via his official Instagram account.
It’s not often a goalkeeper makes his senior debut at the age of just 14.
So, clearly, Solberg is something a little special.
This highly-rated shot stopper was merely a boy when he stood between the sticks for Byrne FK in the third-tier of Norwegian football and it is this remarkable maturity that convinced Tottenham to take a punt on him in the summer of 2019.
Solberg moved from Scandinavia to Spurs after a pair of impressive trial periods in north London.
And, 12 months on, the teenager has developed enough behind the scenes to earn himself a professional contract with the 2019 Champions League finalists.
“Absolutely thrilled to sign my first professional contract with Spurs,” he writes. “A big thank you to my family, friends and everyone who’s been there for me.”
Solberg, who has been capped by Norway at youth level and is also a district champion in cross-country skiing, will now have his sights firmly fixed on securing a regular place between the sticks for Tottenham at U18 and U23 level.
With Hugo Lloris due to turn 34 in December, a World Cup winning captain cannot keep defying Father Time forever.
So when Lloris does finally hang up his gloves in two or three years, perhaps Solberg will be ready to make the step up to Tottenham’s first-team squad.
