Ian Wright has claimed that Tottenham ‘absolutely haven’t’ replaced Christian Eriksen, as he told the Kelly and Wright Show.

It has been nearly two years since Spurs sold their quick-footed playmaker, who left England for the sunny climates of Italy and Inter Milan for £17 million (BBC Sport).

For large parts of Eriksen’s career in North London, he was an outstanding performer under Mauricio Pochettino and one of the most forward-thinking and easy-on-the-eye players in the Premier League.

That creative playmaker is something Spurs have had throughout their history and the beating heart in the middle of their team that makes the team dance.

Wright touched upon how Spurs have historically had that creative talent in their team and now they no longer do.

“When you look at Spurs down the years, way back,” said Wright. “You got back to Glenn Hoddle and Micky Hazard. And Gazza.

“The players that they have had, that creative, skilful, just fantastic midfield players. Something that they have always had.

“I just think £11.5 million he cost, I thought Christian Eriksen was brilliant to watch. He could see a pass and make a pass. He could score goals. Creativity.

“So, absolutely they haven’t replaced that player.”

Not only are Tottenham fans probably missing a player of Eriksen’s ilk, but so is someone like Harry Kane.

The England captain has had a habit now of dropping deep and trying to do too much in less attacking areas.

If he had someone like Eriksen in the pockets then he would probably take up the more dangerous areas because he knows he will be fed the ball.

But there isn’t any in that Spurs midfield, other than perhaps Tanguy Ndombele, who can last only 60 minutes, that can feed him.
