Ally McCoist has criticised Celtic full-back Josip Juranovic on Sky Sports Main Event (1:38pm, January 2, 2023) for his role in the goal that Rangers winger Ryan Kent scored in the opening minutes of the second half at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby on Monday afternoon.
The Rangers legend believes that Juranovic, who was playing at left-back for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership, should have done better for the goal that Kent scored.
The Sky Sports pundit noted that the £2.5 million Croatia international (Sky Sports) should have been much closer to Fashion Sakala when the 25-year-old Zambia international received the ball.
It was Sakala who provided the assist for Kent’s goal.
The finish from the former Liverpool winger was simply superb.
However, Rangers legend McCoist noted that Kent would not have even got the chance to score or get the ball had Juranovic, who is a right-back by trade, done his job by closing down on Sakala and stopping him.
McCoist was on co-commentary duty on Sky Sports for the Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox on Monday afternoon.

Ally McCoist on Josip Juranovic for Celtic v Rangers
The pundit said: “Juranovic’s starting position is shocking, absolutely shocking. How he can go there 10 yards outside of Sakala is frankly unbelievable.”
McCoist added: “The finish is absolutely sublime, but boy oh boy, I do not know what Juranovic’s starting position is. That finish is nothing short of magnificent. Game on.”
