It appears as if Marko Grujic still has some followers within the Liverpool fanbase.
Grujic was Jurgen Klopp’s first-ever signing at Liverpool in 2016 but the Serbia international has only managed eight Premier League appearances since then.
He has spent much of his Reds career out on loan and Porto and Hertha Berlin – two of his clubs over the past three years – are duelling to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool want £15 million for the player, who himself has decided it is time to leave Merseyside.
Eight Premier League games in five years tells one of two stories.
Either Grujic was never good enough for Liverpool in the first place, or Klopp has simply not given him enough proper chances to succeed.
And some fans of the Anfield club believe that it is more a case of the latter. Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
Does Klopp need him?
With Georginio Wijnaldum leaving, it isn’t like Klopp doesn’t need another midfielder this summer.
He probably needs some anyway because Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have injury records which make them wholly unreliable and Jordan Henderson is turning 31 next week.
Long term, Liverpool do need new midfielders, but it doesn’t look like Grujic is even an option any longer.
