Chris Sutton has stated that it’s ‘absolutely ridiculous’ to suggest that Liverpool are out of the Premier League title race, as he told 606.

It was put to the former striker by his fellow pundit, Robbie Savage, that Liverpool won’t catch Manchester City, but he was having none of it.

Whilst those at the Etihad are moving like a steam train at the top of the Premier League table, those on Merseyside aren’t letting off.

After Pep Guardiola’s men dispatched Norwich City on Saturday, their title rivals followed it up by securing a narrow 1-0 win at Burnley.

After hearing from ex-midfielder Savage that Liverpool can’t win the title this term, Sutton issued this blunt response.

“Are you writing Liverpool off,” said Sutton. “You are saying that Liverpool can’t win the title this season.

“That’s absolutely ridiculous. It will be six points if they win their game in hand and they have got to play Manchester City as well.

“Come on, come on! Liverpool can still win it.”

Liverpool are nine points behind Manchester City in the table, but they have a game in hand.

That will be against Marcelo Bielsa’s all-action Leeds side, if they win that then it’s six points, not forgetting that the two are yet to meet at the Etihad.

If Klopp and his players can turn up to Manchester and secure all three points, then the final weeks of the campaign will be quite special because the gap will only be three points.

Of course, the duo still have to do the job before they meet in April and any slip-ups from the chasers, then they can wave goodbye to the title.
