Stan Collymore has written in CaughtOffSide that Chelsea midfielder and Liverpool target Mason Mount should join Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool striker has explained why he thinks Mount is perfect for Newcastle.

Liverpool and Newcastle are among the clubs linked with the 24-year-old England international midfielder.

The Daily Mail have reported that Liverpool are determined to sign Chelsea midfielder Mount and are pushing hard to get a deal done.

Contract talks between Mount and Chelsea are not going well.

The 24-year-old is on £80,000 per week as salary, and he reportedly wants £240,000 per week.

90min reported this month that Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Liverpool all want to sign Mount.

Collymore wrote: “Recent reports claim that Chelsea have halted contract talks with Mason Mount.

“Personally, I would be very surprised if he left. He’s one of their own and has the potential to finish his career as a bit of a legend like John Terry and Frank Lampard, but, obviously, with 18 months left on his deal and no agreement to renew it yet, it is possible that he leaves in the summer.

“I’ve already said I don’t think he will, but if the lad is seriously considering his future, a switch to Newcastle would be absolutely perfect for him. I wonder if Howe and the Magpies’ hierarchy feels the same way.

“Mount is not only the type of energetic player who would fit the Geordies’ system brilliantly, but he’s also an English Champions League winner who hasn’t yet his prime so he’d be a huge signing and would send a major signal of intent.”

Could it happen?

We do not think that Mason Mount will leave Chelsea for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, especially with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United also keen on him.

Mount is used to winning and challenging for major honours, such as the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, and we do not think that the Englishman would see Newcastle at the same level as the Blues, the Reds or the Red Devils.

In our view, Newcastle will not be able to sign Mount in the summer transfer window.
