Aston Villa fans lauded Sam Johnstone for his performance during West Brom’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The ex-Villa goalkeeper pulled off a number of remarkable saves, especially during the death as West Brom clung on for a valuable point.

A selection of Villa supporters were mightily impressed with what Johnstone produced, but in truth, it wouldn’t have been a surprise because they were used to seeing such performances on a weekly basis in the Championship.

Despite West Brom picking up a point at the Etihad, the club’s board still decided to sack Slaven Bilic today, which makes the weekend meeting between the Midlands duo pretty interesting.

The last time Villa and West Brom met was in the play-off semi-finals in the Championship, with Dean Smith’s men knocking out their neighbours in a pulsating and nerve-racking penalty shootout.

Whilst the Villa supporters were impressed with Albion’s £6.5 million man last night, they will be hoping he has left his good form in Manchester ahead of the weekend.

It will be interesting to see how the Albion players react to Bilic’s sacking and whether the new man in the dugout – Sam Allardyce – will provide that early bounce.

Nonetheless, here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Johnstone’s performance from last night:
