It’s a huge day for Arsenal defender David Luiz tomorrow.
Not only will the Brazilian be playing centre-back for the Gunners in an FA Cup final, a massive occasion in itself, but it’ll be against his former club.
Arsenal and Chelsea clash at Wembley tomorrow as the North Londoners chase a 14th title – their 13 cup wins is already a record.
It’s been a very mixed first season for Luiz since joining the Emirates Stadiums side in an £8 million deal from the Blues last summer.
He has had more than his fair share of horrific performances – including against Manchester City on the first day of Project Restart in June – but he has also enjoyed some fantastic displays.
Ironically, his best performance for Arsenal came against the same team who demolished him – the Citizens – and how he played against Pep Guardiola’s side in the semi-final win was a big surprise.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is obviously familiar with Luiz, whom he played alongside in West London, but the former midfielder has categorically denied that his old team-mate is the ‘weak link’ in this Gunners side.
Asked if that was the case, Lampard said to Football London: “No, absolutely not. I have huge respect for David, he was a top player in our 2012 campaign and I know what a big player he can be for Arsenal.”
