Ally McCoist has said on TalkSPORT that there is no chance that Newcastle United will be able to appoint Antonio Conte.
Conte a no-go for Newcastle?
Conte’s name has been linked with the Newcastle job, after their takeover went through last week.
The Magpies are expected to part ways with Steve Bruce in the near future.
However, McCoist claims that Newcastle won’t have a chance of attracting Conte, and they would be better off putting Frank Lampard in charge for the time being.
“It ain’t happening [Conte],” McCoist said. “There is absolutely no chance of Newcastle transforming into a Champions League side in 12 months. Forget that happening.
“They’re not going to get the top players and the top manager.
“They’ll go about it the right way.
“I do not have a problem with them going to get a young coach like Frank Lampard.”
Exciting project
Newcastle have already faced plenty of comments suggesting that they won’t instantly be able to attract a top level manager.
However, their project has just become one of the most exciting in world football.
Conte may be a serial title winner, but the chance of taking Newcastle forward could even appeal to him, providing he is promised funds.
The question is whether Conte would be the ideal fit for Newcastle.
Conte has generally delivered success with methods which are more effective in the short-term than the long-term, and with Newcastle looking to build for the future, they may be better off with a different type of manager in place.
