‘Absolutely’: Newcastle told to sign £20m title winner, PIF confident he’s coming

Newcastle United have been encouraged to go and bring Kieran Trippier to St James’s Park.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for the former Tottenham Hotspur right-back.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle’s owners – Saudi Public Investment Fund – are confident that they’ll be signing the Atletico Madrid defender.

This is someone with Champions League experience and plenty of international experience with England, too.

And Tony Cascarino, speaking to talkSPORT, has indicated that it’s a no-brainer of a transfer for Tyneside outfit.

He told talkSPORT: “Kieran Trippier is a very offensive full back. He creates a lot. He has a wonderful right foot.

“Yes, absolutely, if you could bring somebody of that stature and experience [it’s a no-brainer]. I absolutely give that the thumbs up.”

Good signing?

In a word, definitely.

Not only has Trippier – a £20 million signing in 2019 – got Champions League experience, but he also won a Liga title with Atleti last season, ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

When Newcastle’s owners first rode into town in October, there was talk of the likes of Gareth Bale and Mauro Icardi and Philippe Coutinho.

And although Trippier is nowhere near as exotic as any of them, he is a brilliant player and one who might well help relegation-threatened Newcastle stay in the Premier League.
