Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have reacted to Arsenal potentially splashing £50 million on Ben White.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal are one step away from signing the Brighton and England centre-back, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham.
The Gunners will reportedly pay £45 million and another £5 million in add-ons.
It’s a hell of a fee for a 23-year-old with only 36 Premier League games under his belt and here’s how some Spurs fans on social media reacted to the speculation.
Mistake
This is a mistake by Arsenal and Tottenham fans may have the last laugh if the move goes belly up.
It isn’t a mistake because White is a bad player, and lord knows the Edu and Mikel Arteta need defenders – but not as much as other players.
Arsenal had the third-best defensive record in the Premier League last season and yet they could only finish eighth in the table.
That illustrates that Arteta’s side were lacking in the goalscoring department – and they are.
Spending £50 million on a centre-back is great but White isn’t going to score or set up goals.
Arsenal need a number 10 and a striker much more than White and therefore blowing a big chunk of the budget on the Seagulls powerhouse is a bit of an odd strategy.
