Ian Wright told Premier League Productions that he would be ‘absolutely livid’ if Arsenal were on the end of Kieran Tierney’s penalty award.
Just after the hour mark, the on-field referee and VAR judged that Chelsea’s Reece James fouled Arsenal’s left-back in the penalty area, with Alexandre Lacazette dispatching the spot kick to open the scoring during his side’s 3-1 win.
Judging by the replay, there seemed to be little contact from James on the £25 million Arsenal man [Sky Sports], but the spot-kick was still awarded.
Wright made it clear that Arsenal were ‘fortunate’ on this occasion and he shared he wouldn’t be best pleased if his team conceded a penalty in such a fashion.
“I thought it was a very fortunate penalty, for us,” said Wright. “I cannot lie. What I am pleased about is that we are getting ourselves in a situation where we can actually get this kind of luck.
“If I am being totally honest, I am struggling to see the contact, enough contact, whether it’s the arm or the knee. Like we are seeing, he is already going down. It was a very fortunate one.
“If that was awarded against us, I would be absolutely livid, so I am just pleased to Arsenal get into them positions where they can get that kind of decision.”

Arsenal fans will be telling you that they have been crying out for some luck for a long while now.
Given Arsenal’s lack of form, they weren’t guaranteed to put the ball into the back of the net, but they did a rare thing this season and duly punished their London rivals at that moment and for the rest of the game.
Now it’s a case of using that performance against Chelsea and dragging themselves up the Premier League table.
