BBC Sport pundit Pat Nevin has raved about Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon while watching him in action against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
Anthony Gordon started for Newcastle United in the Premier League match against Liverpool today.
Gordon started on the left of a front-three in a 4-3-3 formation.
The 22-year-old former Everton winger found the back of the net for the Magpies in the 25th minute when he took advantage of a mistake from Liverpool and England international right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Gordon was one of the best players for Newcastle against Liverpool, and former Everton winger Pat Nevin was hugely impressed by him.
Praise for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon vs Liverpool
Nevin noted in the 23rd minute of the match on BBC Sport that he did not realise just how quick Gordon is.
The 22-year-old was a menace for Alexander-Arnold and caused a lot of problems for the Liverpool right-back.
During his time on the pitch at St. James’ Park, Gordon took four shots, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 92.3%, took 44 touches, attempted three dribbles, made one tackle, and put in two crosses.

Nevin said about Gordon: “He is certainly someone I had watched a lot at Everton.
“I hadn’t realised how quick he is.
“He is absolutely lightning at both ends of the pitch and he is really showing it for Newcastle this season.”
Gordon is very young and is still developing and progressing as a footballer.
We believe that the winger would be a huge asset for Newcastle this season, as Eddie Howe’s side aim to finish in the top four of the Premier League table and also make an impact in the UEFA Champions League.
