Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website that Jordan Henderson being on the pitch for the second half against Brighton and Hove Albion helped the team.

Henderson was in action for Liverpool in their 1-1 draw with Brighton away from home in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The former Sunderland midfielder did not start the match, but the England international came on as a substitute at the start of the second half in place of Neco Williams.

Klopp believes that having the 30-year-old midfielder – who has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2011 when he joined from Sunderland for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million – helped the team.

The German told Liverpool’s official website while analysing the game: “The Connolly chance was a big one, all the other situations Ali sorted. So, I liked the first half as well. And, of course, when you have Hendo on the pitch that always helps, absolutely.

“We scored a goal and couldn’t score the second one. OK, scored a lot more goals but they were disallowed and couldn’t score a second one which would have been allowed. Then the penalty came, that’s how it is.”
