Jurgen Klopp has told beIN Sports, during their live Champions League coverage, that Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri was ‘absolutely incredible’ last night.
Shaqiri has been starved of minutes at Anfield this term, but was thrown in at the deep end against Midtjylland last night.
With Liverpool short of options in midfield, Shaqiri was tasked as playing as one of Liverpool’s central three.
And Klopp was impressed by the Swiss international’s stamina, as he managed to play the full 90 minutes of the contest.
“Shaq played in midfield! He did well – he stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes – absolutely incredible,” Klopp said.
Prior to last night, Shaqiri has made just two appearances for Liverpool this term – so his fitness levels were a testament to the work that he has been putting in during training.
Shaqiri will now surely be hoping that his display has done enough to convince Klopp to give him further game time.

While the 29-year-old looks unlikely to get much action in Liverpool’s attacking positions, with Diogo Jota very much first reserve there, he could present a useful option in the Reds’ midfield.
Liverpool have a gruelling fixture schedule right now and with Thiago and Fabinho both out injured, Klopp’s options in the middle of the park are very limited.
