Speaking to TalkSport (27/09/20 at 1:40 pm), Jermaine Beckford slammed George Baldock’s ‘absolutely horrible’ challenge on Illan Meslier during Leeds United’s 1-0 against Sheffield United today.

The game was goalless late in the second-half when Baldock’s late challenge on Meslier drew eyebrows from those watching.

Baldock was on a yellow card at the time and he could have easily been shown his marching orders by the referee, with Leeds going on to secure all three points through Patrick Bamford.

During his commentary stint, Beckford wasn’t happy with what he saw as he blasted the Sheffield United man for his actions.

“That was naughty,” Beckford told TalkSport. “That was absolutely horrible. It was great football from Sheffield United to get into that position initially.

“But my goodness, that was naughty. He shouldn’t have gone for that ball anyway. That’s the kind of challenge you put in if you want to hurt somebody and that’s exactly what that looked like.

“He’s lucky to come away with nothing, if I am honest.”

It’s two wins on the bounce for Leeds and it’s a much-needed clean sheet for a team that had conceded seven goals from their previous two matches.

Whilst Leeds fans will be delighted with the three points, they will be even happier that they have stopped the opposition from scoring.

That was perhaps more needed because Leeds know they have the attacking power to hurt any team, it’s just a case of their aggressive, all-action style being able to show the defensive toughness they were able to showcase in the Championship.
