Everton have been rocked by the news that Abdoulaye Doucoure could miss the next 10 weeks of football.
Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed to a press conference today that the powerful French midfielder has suffered a ‘small fracture’ in his foot.
Doucoure joined Everton from Watford in a £20 million deal last summer and has arguably been Ancelotti’s most consistent and influential player this season, starting 25 Premier League games.
But he hasn’t played since the 1-0 win away to West Brom a little earlier this month and if the Italian’s information is accurate, it’ll be close to three months before he’s back.
It’s very possible – and likely – that the big man won’t play for Everton again until next season.
And here’s how some fans of the Goodison Park club reacted to the bombshell on Twitter this afternoon:
Ancelotti’s side are sixth in the Premier League table and four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
But they also have a game in hand over the Londoners, making their Champions League qualification bid a very genuine one, though this definitely throws a spanner in the works and it’ll be interesting to see how the Italian’s side fare without Doucoure.
