Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was announced that Conor Hourihane would be joining Swansea on a short-term loan.

The Republic of Ireland international will spend the remainder of the season with the Swans, having struggled for game-time this term.

Hourihane has only started three Premier League games this season, although he has impressively managed to record one goal and one assist in that time.

However, the former Barnsley man has struggled to dislodge the likes of Douglas Luiz, Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Ross Barkley from Dean Smith’s midfield.

Hourihane joins the Swans while they’re sat second in the Championship, which means the 29-year-old will be thrown straight into a promotion battle.

It is by no means the end of the Cork-born maestro’s career at Villa Park.

He just needs to focus on hitting top form with Swansea, and then his situation under Smith back at Villa can be addressed in the summer.

Hourihane has made 150 appearances for the Villans, scoring 29 goals and assisting a further 23.

He has proven to be an excellent servant.

Hopefully, the Villa Park faithful haven’t seen the last of the Irish playmaker.

Let’s see what they’ve been saying about Hourihane’s departure on Twitter…
