Sir Alex Ferguson has singled out one Arsenal and former Celtic player for praise and that is Kieran Tierney.
The iconic Manchester United manager has described the Arsenal left-back as ‘absolutely fantastic’ since joining the Gunners.
Tierney, who began his career at Celtic, swapped Glasgow for North London by signing for the Emirates Stadium club in a £25 million deal during Unai Emery’s reign as head coach.
And you could argue that Bukayo Saka is the only Arsenal player more consistent and reliable than the Scotland defender in that time – and it’s worth remembering that Tierney has missed large chunks of the last two seasons with injury.
There was a time earlier in the season when the Scottish defender had created more goalscoring chances than any of Mikel Arteta’s side, which sums up his influence.
And here’s what Fergie said via The Metro: “And Tierney has been fantastic at Arsenal, absolutely fantastic.”
If we’re honest, Celtic haven’t really replaced the 23-year-old.
The Bhoys had Boli Bolingoli as a left-back and then signed Greg Taylor, but neither are anywhere near the level that Tierney managed to reach.
Tierney, who earns £80,000 per week in North London, is still Celtic’s record transfer sale and with Odsonne Edouard suffering a bit of a dip this season, thus affecting his value, the record will probably stand a while longer.
