Tottenham Hotspur fans are reacting on Twitter to a claim made about Gareth Bale this morning.

According to Bale’s former Spurs team-mate Andros Townsend, the Real Madrid misfit would love a return to North London.

The Wales international left Tottenham to join the Spanish giants in a world-record deal seven years ago, but things have soured in recent months.

Bale wasn’t included in the squad that lost to Manchester City last week and is regularly photographed playing golf while his team-mates are in training.

Despite being frozen out, The Mirror reported on Tuesday that the 31-year-old is refusing to leave the Spanish capital until his contract expires next summer.

Here’s what Townsend told talkSPORT[12/08/20 at 9:45 am]: “I think if anything the Bale situation, he’d want to go back to Spurs. The memories of Spurs. His happiness. He was the main man. He was loved. He was at the top of his game. So, if anything I think it would work the other way.”

Here’s how fans of the North London club have reacted to Townsend’s claim on Twitter:

Is he right? It doesn’t matter if he is or isn’t. The bottom line is that the Lilywhites – who took out a £200 million loan earlier this summer – won’t be able to afford his wages.

Even if Bale accepts a 50 percent paycut, chairman Daniel Levy is still looking at paying him around £300,000 per week which, in this financial landscape, is completely unsustainable.

Every so often he’s heavily linked with a return to Tottenham, but it’s more unrealistic now than it ever was.
