Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min get most of the plaudits this season – and rightly so.
But one player whose contribution needs to be recognised is Serge Aurier.
The Ivory Coast international has always been a good attacking right-back for Tottenham, but defensively he has often been lacking.
That being said, since the arrival of Matt Doherty, Aurier is blossoming into a very capable defender under Jose Mourinho.
And the former Paris Saint-Germain man was brilliant again today as Tottenham beat North London rivals Arsenal 2-0.
And it was Aurier’s pass from inside his own half that led to Kane doubling the hosts’ lead before the half time, with his simple ball to Giovanni Lo Celso cutting out four Gunners players, as the Argentine galloped some 40 yards unchallenged en route to goal.
The 27-year-old is much more intelligent in attack and defence this season under Mourinho.
And some Tottenham fans on Twitter are acknowledging the player’s transformation on Twitter:
According to WhoScored, Aurier clocked six clearances, three successful tackles and one interception, though the stats don’t quite tell the full story of the player’s revolution under the Portuguese coach.
