Calum Chambers is hopeful of overcoming the injury he suffered on Sunday in time to play when Aston Villa host his former side, Arsenal, this weekend, according to the Daily Mail.
The defender left north London for Birmingham during January after Mikel Arteta gave the green light for a free transfer. Chambers had just five-months remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and had rarely featured this season, making just two league outings.
Leaving the capital for the second city was initially unlikely to see Chambers become a key starter under Steven Gerrard. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa were the undisputed pairing at Villa Park before Chambers’ arrival, yet he has kept the latter out of the Villans’ line-up.

Chambers has started five of his six Premier League appearances in claret-and-blue so far. But the 27-year-old suffered a facial injury on Sunday that needed stitches after his West Ham United counterpart Craig Dawson accidently elbowed the centre-back on the hour.
Despite the injury, Chambers managed to play on but the Irons went on to win the London Stadium meeting 2-1. Aston Villa have now lost nine of their 11 league matches against the current top-eight so far this season. And they face another on Saturday when Arsenal visit.
Chambers hopeful of overcoming injury blow to face Arsenal for Aston Villa
Gerrard will hope Chambers is fit to feature when Aston Villa host his former club Arsenal following his facial injury. The Gunners will travel to Birmingham in high spirits after they took a fifth-straight Premier League win by beating Leicester City 2-0 at home on Sunday.

Arteta’s side have also not lost since facing Manchester City on New Years’ Day. But they do also host title-chasing Liverpool at the Emirates on Wednesday night before travelling to Birmingham this weekend. Yet defeat to the Reds will see them seek an instant reply.
So, Gerrard having his newfound defensive star Chambers fit could be key to Aston Villa taking a result on Saturday. The Villans boss has loved what he’s seen from the centre-half so far. He has dubbed him, via Birmingham Live, ‘absolutely class’ from day one at Villa.
