Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy has now asked the club to let him leave to join Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou could now make his first move by luring Celtic coach John Kennedy to Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Kennedy has now asked to leave Celtic in order to join Tottenham.

Postecoglou completed his move to North London earlier today, penning a four-year deal to become the new Tottenham boss.

The Australian unsurprisingly wants to build a coaching staff around him and the means targeting raids on Celtic.

Kennedy – Celtic’s current assistant manager – has been Postecoglou’s top target and it looks like he will land his man.

It’s stated that Kennedy has now communicated his desire to leave Celtic and make the move to London.

That’s a considerable coup for Tottenham and Postecoglou given Kennedy’s history at Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers tried to lure Kennedy to Leicester City in 2019 but the Scot rejected the move, claiming an exit would be too difficult.

The lure of Tottenham appears to be different for Kennedy though, who looks ready to end his long association with Celtic.

Who is Tottenham target John Kennedy?

Kennedy has been Mr Celtic throughout his time in football.

A defender in his playing days, Kennedy came up through the Celtic ranks and ended up becoming a first-team player.

Kennedy had his career cut short by injury in 2009 and took up a scouting role at Parkhead.

Celtic ended up promoting him to a coaching role as Kennedy role from the youth team to the development squad and then the first team.

Now assistant manager to Postecoglou, Kennedy has been part of the furniture at Celtic for years now and now feels the time is right to move on.

This could be a smart move for Postecoglou and Tottenham, especially given Brendan Rodgers’ verdict on Kennedy.

Rodgers praised Kennedy as an ‘absolutely brilliant first-team coach’, hailing his knowledge of the game and his work ethic.

Postecoglou seemingly agrees as and a move for Kennedy to join Tottenham seems to be in motion.
