Speaking on the Where’s Jeff? Podcast, Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has been speaking about Mikel Arteta’s decision to bring Sead Kolasinac back into the fold at Arsenal.

Kolasinac spent the second half of last season out on loan at Schalke where he was relegated, and it was widely reported that the Gunners wanted to shift him this summer on a permanent basis.

However, for one reason or another, he’s now back in Arteta’s plans and Nicholas isn’t happy about that.

What’s been said?

Nicholas was speaking about the Bosnian.

“Kolasinac, where has he come from? He was a ghost last season, he was out of the door. He’s back in and I couldn’t believe his choices. As much as I’m trying to support Mikel Arteta I’m finding it incredibly difficult to give a proper and understandable reason as to why, so, yeah, absolute torture,” Nicholas said.

Absolutely right

Arsenal have spent more than any club in England this summer, yet for some reason they’ve seemingly gone backwards.

Kolasinac has been out of the reckoning for a long time, but now all of a sudden he’s starting against Manchester City at the Etihad, it just doesn’t make much sense.

The pundit may be going a bit far when calling it ‘absolute torture’, but it’s certainly not an ideal situation for the London club to find themselves in.

Arsenal need to evolve after finishing 8th two years in a row, but the re-emergence of Kolasinac just seems like something of a step backwards at this moment in time.
