Tony Dorigo has claimed that he’s a big fan of Leeds United new boy Robin Koch and believes that he can take up the mantle left by Pontus Jansson well over a year ago.
The Germany international endured an erratic first couple of games as a Whites player following a £13 million summer move.
But Koch is gradually adapting to life in the Premier League in a big way and was one of Leeds’ best players in their narrow defeat by Wolves on Monday night.
The 24-year-old is a powerful centre-back reminiscent of Jansson – who was sold to Brentford in a £5.5 million deal in 2019 – in the way that he attacks the ball and uses possession.
And for £13 million, Dorigo has told LUTV that Koch is an ‘absolute snip’ of a signing.
He told LUTV: “It’s the attacking threat. If you think back to Pontus Jansson. That’s what he gave us. When he went we missed that a little bit. We’ve got it back in spades now. I thought he was outstanding [against Wolves]. He looks an absolute snip at £13 million. What a great piece of business that is.”
Consistency will be key for Koch this season but he certainly does look like he’s getting progressively better.
He has a ways to go before he’s as adored by the Leeds fans as Jansson was at one point during his three-year spell in West Yorkshire, but the signs are definitely promising.
