Aston Villa communications director, Tommy Jordan, has labelled rumours that the club want to sell Ollie Watkins as ‘absolute nonsense’, as he posted on Twitter.

There has been a lot of noise around Villa of late, with Steven Gerrard stripping Tyrone Mings as captain, and Tommy Jordan added on another Twitter post that there has been ‘some nonsense’ written this week.

The opening weekend of the new Premier League season didn’t go as planned for Gerrard, with his side not just losing 2-0 to Bournemouth, but putting up a pretty abject display.

It has raised a lot of questions about the legendary midfielder in Villa’s dugout and whether he is good enough for the job going forward.

Now, Villa aren’t going to part ways with him anytime soon because he is less than 12 months into the job, but one thing is for sure, there is serious pressure on his shoulders.

Nonetheless, this is what Jordan posted about those Villa/Watkins rumours, as he made his feelings pretty clear.

OLLIE WATKINS TO RETURN TO XI AGAINST EVERTON?

Aston Villa will welcome another under-performing side to the Midlands on Saturday, when Everton make the trip from Merseyside.

Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea over the weekend and they will be pretty eager to get off the mark after surviving by the skin of their teeth last season.

Will Gerrard bring Watkins back into the fold? Well, he started on the bench against Bournemouth, with Danny Ings starting up on his own and it just didn’t work out for the ex-Liverpool man.

Ings struggled for most parts and was subbed after the hour mark. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Watkins does return to the XI because Villa are a better team when he’s starting.
