
A selection of supporters on Twitter were annoyed after Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott wasn’t included in England’s U21 squad for the forthcoming European U21 Championships.
Two Liverpool academy products were selected by Aidy Boothroyd on Monday – Curtis Jones and Rhian Brewster, as posted by Sky Sports.
Given that Brewster has struggled and not scored a goal for Sheffield United this season, some have then questioned how Elliott doesn’t then get picked.
The 17-year-old has been thriving in Blackburn colours this season, and whilst his turn will come to move up the ranks for England during these coming years, some feel he should be picked now.
Whilst this is a strong England squad, with the likes of Mason Greenwood, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Jones and Emile Smith Rowe being picked, there are some supporters who feel there is room for Elliott’s creative spark.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Elliott at the end of the campaign and whether he will be shipped out on loan again.
Another Championship loan might suffice for the talented attacker, but is it the Championship again or lower down in England’s top-flight?
Either way, Elliott is on his way up and things are looking bright for the teenager even though some feel he should have been an outside pick for Monday’s squad.
