‘Absolute machine’ – Rangers fans full of praise for ‘warrior’ in Calvin Bassey

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Calvin Bassey, after he shone on his first Scottish Premiership start.

The left-back was signed on a pre-contract agreement from Leicester earlier this year, which The Daily Record say cost Rangers just £230,000 in compensation.

So far, Transfermarkt shows Bassey has played 16 minutes in the Europa League, as well as 11 and 32 minutes against St Mirren and Dundee United respectively in domestic action.

However, Steven Gerrard trusted the 20-year-old to start against Motherwell, and he delivered a fine display as the Gers cruised to a 5-1 win.

According to WhoScored, Bassey showcased his defensive steel with three successful tackles on Sunday, while he also made two clearances.

The youngster also completed one key pass, embarked on one successful dribble and attempted three crosses on a busy afternoon in which he certainly didn’t let himself down.

Unfortunately for Bassey, he has Borna Barisic ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Croatian already has one goal and five assists to his name this season, which comes after he netted two goals and set up an eye-catching 14 more last term.

However, if Gerrard requires a backup, or simply a change of personnel, he has a fantastic prospect to call upon in Bassey.
