Micah Richards has described it as an ‘absolute joke’ for UEFA to hand Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara a three-match ban.

It was reported on Friday [BBC Sport] that Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela would appeal the 10-game suspension that he was issued after being found guilty of racially abusing the 25-year-old Rangers star.

Kamara was punished for allegedly assaulting the player in the tunnel at Ibrox after the Gers’ Europa League defeat last month.

UEFA were widely slated for showing a perceived leniency toward Kudela – who will miss Croatia’s Euro 2020 campaign as a result of the sanction – and only banning the player for seven matches more than the Rangers man.

And suffice to say that Sky Sports pundit Richards is furious with both punishments.

He wrote in The Daily Mail: “Kamara ended up with a three-match suspension for an incident that happened afterwards in the tunnel. So when this young lad goes through one of the worst experiences he has endured on a football pitch and wants to defend himself, UEFA still want to punish him. What an absolute joke that is.”

UEFA have received a good bit of positive press over the past six days for their zero-tolerance approach to the European Super League idea.

But it’s worth remembering that Europe’s governing body are guilty themselves of some horrendous injustices in the football world and banning the Rangers midfielder is probably just another example.
