Liverpool fans have been left extremely concerned about Simon Hughes’ claims about Mohamed Salah on the Red Agenda Podcast.
Salah is yet to sign a new contract at Liverpool, leading to some doubts over his future at Anfield beyond this summer.
Hughes says that the Egyptian actually wants to stay on Merseyside though.
And it is Liverpool who are delaying things, in terms of a new contract.
Hughes said: ”He would like to stay at Liverpool but he isn’t necessarily getting the impression that Liverpool are quite as keen to get things done as quickly as he wants to.”
The latest update has sparked real fear at Liverpool that Salah could be about to be sold by FSG.
And many Reds fans say that they will be up in arms if their top scorer is cashed in on.
Given the current sentiment towards FSG, after the Super League debacle, the sale of Salah would surely be misguided.
Liverpool fans are already calling for new owners and if Salah was to depart those shouts would only become louder.
If ever there was a time for opposition teams to come sniffing for Salah this summer may be it though.
Liverpool have announced big financial losses and their status in next season’s Champions League is far from secure.
If the Reds do fail to make the top four, then the financial hit will surely hurt the club.
But Liverpool may need to find others ways of raising funds rather than selling their star attacker, judging by the initial backlash to Hughes’ update.
