Gary Neville labelled John W Henry’s apology video as an ’embarrassment’ and an ‘absolute joke’, as he told Sky Sports on Sunday evening.

This time last week, English football descended into chaos, as the likes of Liverpool, led by their American owners, decided to join a breakaway Super League with 11 other European teams.

But after a ferocious reaction from the footballing family in England, it wasn’t too long before Liverpool’s owner was apologising for his actions.

But Neville was having none of it, as he questioned how that apology video was allowed to be put out.

“Who at Liverpool ever sanctioned that J W Henry video going out,” said Neville. “That was an embarrassment.

“You think about it, you drive to Liverpool and you go up to a game and see those fans and you think to yourself ‘who allowed that video to go out’?

“It was an absolute joke. I have to say maybe the clever thing the Glazers have done in the last seven, ten or 15 years is not speak, if that’s how it’s going to come across. Maybe they are more aware.”

Whilst the money-hungry sharks sitting in the footballing boardrooms will try to push for such a situation again, it is reassuring that the rest of football is against such an idea or ideas.

Even if these owners attempt something again, it will only be met with anger from players, fans, managers and the media alike.

Whilst the comments from Neville are a bit rich because they come from Sky’s platforms, his outcry, during this past week, are valid and correct.
