Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham transfer target, Gareth Bale, is ‘above Ronaldinho’ if you just compared the two for what they produced in the Champions League.
The former England defender made it clear that ‘you can’t mention Ronaldinho and Gareth Bale in the same sentence’ when comparing what the two have done in their careers.
But, in Europe, Bale, who has won five European Cups to the Brazil legend’s one, has produced some outstanding moments, no more so than his overhead kick against Liverpool four years ago.
The Welshman, who is being tipped to make a return to Spurs this summer, didn’t get on to the pitch on Saturday, as Madrid repeated history by beating Liverpool in the Champions League final in Paris.
But, when trying to name the greatest XI during the Champions League era, Ferdinand spoke about both Bale and Brazil’s wing wizard on BT Sport.
“Hold up, you can’t mention Ronaldinho and Gareth Bale in the same sentence,” said Ferdinand.
Purley in the Champions League when comparing Bale and Ronaldinho: “Gareth Bale, he’s above Ronaldinho in that sense,” the 2008 Champions League winner agreed.
“Gareth Bale, don’t get me wrong, he has had a ridiculous career. What he has won. The moments he has had.
“But the moments Ronaldinho has had (in his career), the moments will live with generations of people forever.”

BALE TO MAKE TOTTENHAM RETURN THIS SUMMER?
Bale’s chaotic, memorable, toxic, career-defining and drama-filled career at Real Madrid has now come to an end.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the 14-time European Cup winners in June, with Wales one game away from reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
If Wales secure World Cup qualification for the first time since the 1950s, then Bale will need a new club to perform at in order to prepare for the winter World Cup.
That’s where Tottenham and Antonio Conte come into the argument because, before Euro 2020, Bale’s returned to Spurs to build up his fitness and sharpness.
And, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he looks for a new home during that small window of the season starting in August and the World Cup kicking off in November.
