Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has praised Joe Gelhardt in Leeds Live for his performance against Arsenal at Elland Road.

Bielsa has said that Gelhardt played extremely well for Leeds and much better than he expected him to against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Leeds went down 4-1 to Arsenal at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Gelhardt, 19, started the match and earned the penalty which Raphinha converted in the 75th minute.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about Gelhardt: “And there’s examples that have a lot of value for example in today, Koch competes again after four months out, that participation didn’t find him in an ideal state and despite that he chose to play it and apart from that the game didn’t overcome him or if you look at the case of Dallas who received a lot of knocks today, he finished the game like Raphinha.

“The efforts that Gelhardt made today that are above his possibilities at the moment, they are players who have to accelerate their adaptation to the competition on one side and the adversity on the other.”

Leeds United gem

Gelhardt has made only a handful of appearances for the Leeds first team, but he has impressed.

The 19-year-old has made two starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Whites so far this season.

The teenager has scored one goal in those games.

Patrick Bamford is injured at the moment, and that has opened the door for the former Wigan Athletic striker.

Gelhardt is quick, works hard and gets stuck in.

It is not easy for a young striker to star for a team who are struggling for survival.

In our opinion, Gelhardt is a Leeds gem.
