Thomas Tuchel was linked with the managerial role at Tottenham Hotspur, but he has become the new Bayern Munich head coach instead.

Bayern sacked Julian Nagelsmann last week and replaced him with former Chelsea manager Tuchel.

While Bayern are in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, the defending Bundesliga champions could miss out on the league title this season.

Tottenham decided to part company with Antonio Conte late on Sunday night.

And now Spurs are on the hunt for a permanent replacement for the Italian boss in the summer of 2023.

It could have been Tuchel at Tottenham now before he took the job at Bayern.

Over the weekend, Kicker reported that Tuchel was set for a face-to-face meeting with Tottenham.

The German coach had booked a flight to London to speak to the Tottenham bosses, but he cancelled the trip when Bayern came calling, according to the report.

Now, it is not a surprise at all that Tuchel decided to move to Bayern instead of Spurs.

After all, Bayern regularly win the Bundesliga title and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

And Tuchel’s comments after getting the Bayern job suggests that he does not have any regret whatsoever in snubbing Spurs.

Tuchel told Bayern’s official website: “It’s an honour and a distinction to be approached by FC Bayern. My express thanks for the trust placed in me go to Oliver Kahn, Hasan Salihamidžić, Herbert Hainer and Uli Hoeness.

“When you work abroad for a while, you become even more aware of the importance of FC Bayern. The club’s DNA involves a commitment.

“Bayern is about winning, also about the way of winning. The squad is one of the most talented and best squads in Europe. I’m really looking forward to working with this squad.

“You’re a contender for every trophy with these players. It’s also a big commitment.”
