John McGinn told Aston Villa prospect, Aaron Ramey, on Instagram it’s ‘about time’ he signed a professional contract with the club.
On Tuesday, Villa announced on their official website that their thriving 18-year-old midfielder has put pen-to-paper on his first pro contract.
Ramsey, whose brother Jacob has featured in a number of Premier League games this season, reacted on Instagram to the news.
McGinn was one of the Villa senior players who sent him a message and in his own typical fashion, he wrote: ‘About time ya wee dafty’.
For A. Ramsey, it’s now a case of following in his older brothers footsteps because he has earned four Premier League starts this term.
More will follow and, from Villa’s perspective, it’s hopefully the start of a road where their academy stars blossom once again.
During this last decade, which saw Villa fall into the second-tier for the first time in nearly three decades, one area of the club that was badly hurt was the academy.

Just like the whole club, a number of rising stars were mismanaged, even though the Midlands giants have perhaps produced one of their best in Jack Grealish during that period.
But after Dean Smith helped lift one of England’s sleeping giants from one of its lowest points, it’s now seeing rising stars, such as the Ramsey brothers and Louis Barry coming through and ready to shine.
