Chris Wilder is now seeking a return to management with Scottish side Aberdeen and talks over a deal have been held.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that Wilder has now made his pitch for the Aberdeen job.

It’s stated that Wilder has held talks with new Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows, who recently moved over from Motherwell.

Wilder allegedly believes that he is the right man for the Aberdeen job and thinks he can turn the club around.

Wilder has been out of work since losing his job as Middlesbrough boss back in October.

The 55-year-old was thought to be a huge appointment for Boro after working wonders at Sheffield United.

Wilder only won 18 of his 45 games in charge though and was replaced by Michael Carrick earlier this season.

Aberdeen are now taking a close look at Wilder having sacked Jim Goodwin in late January.

Chris Wilder needs to get his career back on track

It’s not that long ago that Wilder was earning rave reviews and being linked with big jobs.

Wilder guided boyhood club Sheffield United from League One to the Premier League and was hailed for his adventurous 3-5-2 setup.

Wilder couldn’t quite repeat the trick in the 2020-21 season and was sacked by the Blades before their relegation.

There were still links with big jobs though as The Chronicle reported last season that Wilder was keen on the Newcastle United job.

Wilder would have ‘loved’ the chance to become Magpies boss but the job ended up going to Eddie Howe.

Wilder still headed to the North East with Middlesbrough but his stock has considerably fallen since the hopes of a Newcastle move.

Aberdeen may be the place where Wilder thrives once again – and maybe puts himself back in the frame for Premier League jobs down the line.
