The Newcastle United loanee put in an excellent performance v Hibernian at the weekend.
Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean has been discussing the Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who is currently on loan at the Scottish side.
The midfielder, who is back on loan at Aberdeen after joining Norwich City in January, was discussing the club’s recent loss to Hibernian. The Dons lost the game 2-0 and failed to get going in the fixture.
In fact, were it not for the young Newcastle stopper the score could have been a lot worse for Derek McInnes’ side.
McLean alluded to that very fact by telling the Evening Express this week:
“None of us really turned up and it is very uncharacteristic.
“We did not show enough right across the board.
“Freddie was the exception because he pulled off some good saves but that just shows how poor the performance was in the second half especially.”
Newcastle fans will not be surprised by this fact. The young stopper is highly rated at the club and some fans have even called on him to get his chance in the first-team.
Instead Newcastle have relied upon the likes of Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow in recent times, whilst also signing Martin Dubravka, initially on loan, during the January transfer window.
Woodman, who helped England win the FIFA under-20 World Cup in the summer, will no doubt be hoping he can one day make it into the Newcastle United first-team picture.
If he continues to perform like he has started at Aberdeen, then it will become increasingly hard for his parent club to ignore him.
