Aberdeen legend Willie Miller values Celtic target Scott McKenna between £4m and £5m

Celtic have reportedly seen a bid rejected for Aberdeen’s McKenna.

Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has told the Evening Express that he believes Scott McKenna is worth between £4million and £5million, after Celtic reportedly had a bid rejected for the centre-back.

The report claims the Hoops saw a £3.5million bid for four-time Scotland international McKenna knocked back, but it is believed that Brendan Rodgers’ side could return with a second offer.

McKenna has shone for the Dons over the last couple of seasons after breaking into the side following loan spells with Ayr United and Alloa Athletic. Last season, the 21-year-old clocked up 35 appearances and scored three goals.

This time around, McKenna has played in Aberdeen’s opening three matches before suffering a hamstring injury. Miller, a 65-time Scotland international, believes McKenna could be sold for just a bit more than Celtic’s opening bid.

“Aberdeen are in the right position to reject the offer,” Miller said. “Having Scott on a longer-term contract and Scott’s point of view has been steadfast in that he’s not in any hurry to make a move.

“When you put those parts together, Aberdeen are right to hold on to Scott. But there’s always going to be a price where the deal is done.

“It’s not there at £3.5m, but I said way back it was between £4m and £5m he was worth and I haven’t changed my opinion. I think that’s realistic.”

Celtic are desperate for a centre-back as the saga surrounding Dedryck Boyata remains, after claiming injury for the clash against AEK Athens before Brendan Rodgers declared after the match he was fit.

He has turned down the chance to sign a new contract and Spanish side Sevilla are said to be keen. Even if Celtic kept the Belgium World Cup star, Rodgers side still require a centre-back.

That is because Marvin Compper has been shunned into the wilderness, while doubts remain over the performances of Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic. Celtic have also been linked with Jeffrey Bruma, while Jason Denayer has joined Lyon.
