St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin is now keen to hold talks with Aberdeen whilst Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has thrown his hat into the ring.
The Dons sacked Stephen Glass on Sunday after a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell, with Glass lasting less than a year at Pittodrie.
The hunt for a replacement is now on, and Aberdeen have failed with one approach for St Mirren boss Goodwin.
The Daily Record claim that Aberdeen may now end up activating a £250,000 release clause in Goodwin’s deal if they can’t strike a deal.
Aberdeen seem to be encouraged by their pursuit as this report claims that Goodwin wants to speak to the Dons about the job.
Goodwin, 40, was plucked from Alloa Athletic in 2019 and has done a superb job with St Mirren.
The Irishman has claimed four wins in the last five games and now has St Mirren punching above their weight up in sixth place in the Scottish Premiership.
St Mirren now have real hopes of a top six finish, and with Aberdeen struggling in the bottom half, they want Goodwin to turn their fortunes around.
There is a fascinating candidate in the mix though, with the Daily Record’s report claiming that Robbie Fowler wants the job.

It’s stated that Fowler has put his name forward for the Aberdeen job as he seeks to get back into management.
Liverpool legend Fowler, 46, has managed Muangthong United in Thailand, Brisbane Roar in Australia and East Bengal in India.
Fowler’s total record in management stands at 18 wins, 17 draws and 22 defeats in 57 games for a win rate of less than 32%.
Fowler may be the bigger name, but his mixed record in management means Goodwin’s proven record in the Scottish Premiership should be far more appealing.
