Aberdeen assistant manager Tony Docherty has told the Evening Express ahead of the Dons’ clash against Rangers on Wednesday night that Aberdeen’s strikers are just as good as Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos, 22, has been on fire for Rangers of late, scoring in seven consecutive Scottish Premiership matches – which is a new record. In total, he has amassed 17 goals for the Gers in 28 league and cup appearances.

A new Colombia international, striker Morelos has also showed his creative side, creating 10 goals for his teammates. It has seen a number of pundits suggest that he is the best forward in the Scottish Premiership at the moment.

But Dons assistant Docherty has made a claim ahead of Wednesday night’s clash, suggesting that the likes of Stevie May, James Wilson, Sam Cosgrove and Bryce Anderson are capable of what Morelos has achieved this term.

“Morelos is doing it for Rangers at the moment as he looks confident, is scoring goals and is enjoying doing that,” Docherty said. “We have strikers as good as that, that just need to get on that run.

“To have that belief that they are going to score one or two goals every game. We are not that far away from it and will keep working hard at it. The goals will come. I see it in training every day.”

Morelos’ continues to remain in the middle of controversy, with his lack of discipline seeing him pick up 10 yellow cards already this season as well as two red cards. His goal against Hearts on Sunday was offside.

He is expected to start on Wednesday evening against Aberdeen in a crucial Scottish Premiership clash, with the Gers sitting at the top of the league. They remain a point ahead of Celtic, who are only a point behind.
