Rangers were always up against it in their hope of landing Aberdeen’s star man Kenny McLean.
It’s no great surprise that Aberdeen aren’t exactly keen on selling Kenny McLean to Rangers.
After all, Derek McInnes’ men finished above Rangers in second place last season and, after losing captain Ryan Jack to Ibrox, allowing their prized asset to follow in his footsteps would threaten to close the gap between the two sides.
Nonetheless, that did not stop Pedro Caixinha’s Gers launching a hugely ambitious bid of just £300,000 for McLean, per the Daily Record, who was arguably the best midfielder in Scotland last season outside of runaway champions Celtic.
And although Rangers have not increased their offer for the 25-year-old, it was understood that they still harboured an interest in the one-time Scotland international.
“No [there won’t be any more outgoings],” Milne said. “We have ended up with a very good squad.
“We are every bit as strong as we were last year and maybe a bit stronger when they all gel together. The players we have brought in are going to contribute a great deal this season.”
While Rangers have enjoyed a largely successful transfer window, bringing in nine players including Euro 2016 winning defender Bruno Alves, boyhood fan Graham Dorrans (below) and prolific Colombian Alfredo Morelos, their inability to add proven domestic talent to their squad may be a cause for concern.
Manager Pedro Caixinha stated that he wanted more experience in his team but Jack and Dorrans are the only new additions who have plied their trade in Scotland before.
Furthermore, while the likes of Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera are completely unproven, McLean would surely have improved Rangers’ starting XI. However, a miserly £300,000 bid was always unlikely to convince Aberdeen to sell.
