Abel Hernandez was dreaming of Newcastle United move in 2014, now Rafael Benitez reportedly wants him

Newcastle United have been linked with the Hull City forward recently.

According to a report in Uruguayan news website Ovation Digital, Newcastle United have asked about taking Abel Hernandez from Hull City at the end of the season.

Hernandez is available on a free transfer, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.

And the Uruguayan striker’s comments from 2014 suggest that a move to St. James’ Park would appeal.

Hernandez told Gazzetta dello Sport that he was dreaming of a move to Newcastle four years ago.

He said: “I dream of Newcastle, Real or Atletico for the future.

“(In the summer) I decided to stay because I owned it to (Palermo owner) Maurizio Zamparini and the fans.”

Hernandez may now get his wish, all these years later, after impressing with Hull this season.

The 27-year-old has missed much of the campaign with injury, but has eight goals in 10 appearances.

And Newcastle reportedly feel that Hernandez could be a good addition to Rafael Benitez’s squad.

Newcastle are on the hunt for a new forward, as they have failed to find a prolific scorer this season.

If Hernandez was to move to Newcastle he would be in competition with the likes of Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Ayoze Perez for a first-team place next season.
