Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for major midfield reinforcements in the January transfer window, and Mauricio Pochettino may be keen to bring in at least two new options in his engine room.
With Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele potentially heading for the exit, Pochettino will be looking for box-to-box midfielders with strength and athleticism, but also quality on the ball to supply the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.
The Mirror now report that Tottenham have identified Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure as a top target for 2019, even with the Frenchman valued at around £35million.
The Frenchman, 25, has starred for the Hornets over the last 18 months, becoming one of the Premier League’s top midfielders to justify why Watford signed him from Rennes in February 2016.
Tottenham would allegedly face competition from Liverpool for Doucoure’s signature, and that would leave Spurs in a tough battle, as Doucoure was quoted by the Liverpool Echo carried quotes from Doucoure admitting the Reds would be a dream move for him.
However, the best move for Doucoure may actually be to join Spurs, even beyond its geographical proximity to Watford, which would o doubt he hugely beneficial to the midfielder, who is well settled at Vicarage Road.

At Liverpool, Doucoure would be faced with major competition, from the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita, and that’s even before Liverpool add the creative midfielder they are expected to sign in 2019.
Yet with Spurs, Doucoure could become the star of Pochettino’s midfield, taking over the key role of Dembele in the Tottenham midfield rather than risking sitting on the bench at Liverpool – and if Spurs cough up the £35million, he should jump at the chance to join Spurs in 2019.
