Liel Abada believes Celtic know what they must do to win a treble this season. The winger has also explained how boss Ange Postecoglou is managing the expectations at Parkhead.

The Bhoys lifted the first trophy of the season on Sunday as the Hoops retained the League Cup. Kyogo Furuhashi repeated his 2021 heroics at Hampden Park to secure a 2-1 win. The 28-year-old also inspired a victory in the previous term for Postecoglou’s first title at Celtic.

Postecoglou went on to guide Celtic to Premiership glory in his debut season at the helm in Glasgow, too. And a second straight top-flight crown could follow this term with the Hoops leading the division by nine points. They have won 24 and lost just one of their 26 fixtures.

Celtic have swept up the titles in recent seasons with last week’s League Cup triumph their seventh in nine years. The Bhoys also sealed a treble in four straight seasons from 2016/17 to ‘19/20. But they only made the SFA Cup fourth round in ‘20/21 and semi-finals last year.

Sealing a quadruple of trebles between 2016 and 2020 moved Celtic level with Rangers on seven domestic trebles so far. But the Hoops also won a European treble in 1966/67 after topping the Premiership, lifting the SFA Cup and the European Cup in the same campaign.

Postecoglou ‘doesn’t let’ Celtic look far ahead as Abada assess their treble chances

Celtic can continue their march toward another potential treble on Sunday when they visit St Mirren. Hearts then travel to Parkhead on Wednesday in the Premiership before hosting the Bhoys next Saturday in the SFA Cup. The Hoops take on Hearts at the quarter-finals stage.

But Postecoglou is not letting Celtic look too far ahead and Abada is eager to only focus on the Hoops as they target winning another treble. The 21-year-old has played a leading role in their term so far. He has scored 11 and assisted six goals in 37 games in all competitions.

“We don’t worry about what anyone else says – we just focus on our football and trying to win,” Abada said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times. “We know what we have to do in every game and that’s it. We just have to keep going and try to achieve our targets.

“If we can do that, we will have a good season. Is the target a treble? We want to win every trophy we can. But we know to do that we have to work hard every single day. Hopefully, if we do that, then we will get that target.

“The manager doesn’t let anyone look too far ahead – it is one game at a time. He always says to us to focus on the game and the next opponent, that’s it. We look at it day-to-day and, thankfully, on Sunday we did the job. Now, we have to keep going.”
