The winger has been linked with a move away from Newcastle.
Rolando Aarons is now attempting to re-establish himself in the Newcastle United side after returning from injury, but there have been suggestions that the winger could leave the club in the January transfer window.
As reported by The Mirror’s live Transfer Blog on Monday, December 4, Aston Villa are interested in signing Aarons next month.
Aarons could be forgiven if he was to contemplate leaving Newcastle given that he faces a battle to establish himself as an important player for Rafael Benitez’s team.
However, if he went to Aston Villa he could also find regular playing time rather difficult to come by and there is actually a chance that he could force his way into the Newcastle starting line-up if he impresses Benitez sufficiently in training.
Matt Ritchie has been Newcastle’s regular option on the left flank so far this season and has made six assists in the Premier League. However, the majority of those came early in the campaign, while he has yet to find the net in the top flight this campaign.
Aarons has pace and flair in abundance and found the net in the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy earlier this season. Injuries have dictated that he has yet to be given a regular run of games to fully express himself for Newcastle but his directness could make a difference, especially at a time when Benitez’s side are in need of inspiration.
Ritchie doesn’t possess the same dynamism that Aarons does, with the latter capable of causing all manner of problems for opposing defenders with his weaving runs.
As opposed to considering selling Aarons, Newcastle should instead look to make him one of their most important players
