The Villans have not made the best start to life in the Championship.

Aaron Tshibola has insisted that Aston Villa have a frightening amount of quality within their squad despite their disappointing start to the season, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Despite many expecting Roberto Di Matteo to inspire the Villans back to the top flight at the first time of asking, they have struggled in the second tier, winning just once in their opening nine games.

But after some of the gloom lifted slightly following their draw with Newcastle United at the weekend, Tshibola – who bagged the 88th minute equaliser – has insisted that there is more than enough ability in their ranks to turn things around.

“As a team collectively we have frightening players. Players with experience. I’m learning from every single one of them,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“We have a players who’ve played many years in the Prem, and others who have played abroad and in the major honours.”

It could be argued that Villa’s position in the table is not reflective of how they have often performed this term. They may be 17th, but if games finished after 80 minutes, they would be considerably higher as a string of late goals has seen them drop a worrying amount of points already.

And the continual lapses in concentration that lead to the concession of late goals is arguably not down to the quality of the squad, but rather a tendency to switch off as the game looks to wind down.

And if Di Matteo can work on his players so they begin to see fixtures out, then it is likely that several more people will be agreeing with Tshibola’s assessment of the squad.
