Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has praised Liverpool fans and has also given his take on Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Aaron Ramsdale has noted in The Times how Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool fans treat him during matches.

In January, during the North London derby against Tottenham, Arsenal and England international goalkeeper Ramsdale exchanged comments with the Spurs fans, one of whom kicked him when he bent down to collect his water bottle at full-time.

The goalkeeper has noted how Liverpool fans greet him at Anfield.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool fans

Ramsdale said: “If you make a mistake at home you’ve got 55,000 Arsenal fans disappointed. Away I don’t really care if there are 40,000 away fans saying it’s my fault. They have got nothing to do with me as a person.

“At Tottenham, the banter was taken in good spirits and heart. At Liverpool, you get clapped by the Kop at the start of the half and 30 seconds later you’re getting hammered.

“At full-time they clap and show respect. That’s how I like it. One game I forget, I went to clap and they went to clap and just booed at the same time.”

Staying on the right side of banter

In our view, the way Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale acts on the pitch is the right side of banter.

Now, of course, there are always words being exchanged at football matches, but as long as they do not become anything sinister, everything is good.

Ramsdale plays with a smile on his face, and you can see that he likes to have a ‘relationship’ with the opposition fans.

The goalkeeper is not shy from letting the opposition fans know his mind, and that is very encouraging, as long as it stays within limit.

Opposition fans should involve themselves in banter, but at the same time, it is important to have mutual respect.
