The manager also says the former Tottenham man has an advantage that he knows the Premier League and opposition Chelsea.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Everton manager Roberto Martinez says Aaron Lennon should be involved in their game against Chelsea this weekend.
The winger was secured in a deadline day move from Tottenham Hotspur before the international break, making his move to Goodison Park a permanent one after his successful loan spell last season.
He has not played a single minute of football so far this season, having been frozen out by Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino but despite that, Martinez says he is likely to feature at some point in Saturday’s game.
“I’m not worried about his physical state and he needs to play games now to sharpen up his play,” Martinez told evertonfc.com.
“He’s refreshed and is in a great position. He knows the football club inside out and is desperate to get back to Goodison. From that point of view, I expect Aaron to be involved one way or another at the weekend.”
Lennon’s big advantage
There is every chance that Lennon could be handed a starting place for the clash with Chelsea, with the Blues having lost Tom Cleverley to injury last time out.
The former Manchester United man had made a solid start to his Everton career after joining on a free in the summer, but will now miss up to two months of the season after an awkward challenge from Eric Dier.
That will mean Kevin Mirallas is likely to move to the left wing position, with Lennon sure to be keen to fill his right wing berth. He faces competition from Gerard Deulofeu, but Martinez says the advantage he has is that he knows the league and the opposition well.
“The big advantage Aaron has is that he knows the league and he knows the competition,” added Martinez.
“He needs match fitness but he is fresh and has been working very well throughout pre-season as well.”
