Everton winger Aaron Lennon is said to be on Newcastle United’s wishlist.

Lennon would add quality to Newcastle’s first-team in the immediate short-term, and it would also ensure that the Magpies are in a strong position to land the winger on a permanent deal in the summer.
Lennon’s contract at Everton expires in six months time, and it remains unclear whether he will be offered a new deal at Goodison Park.

Everton have bolstered their attacking options this month, through the arrival of Theo Walcott.
And Lennon may now feel that the time is right for him to move on from Merseyside.
Newcastle are prepared to give him a new home, and if the loan move is successful then he will surely end up at St. James’ Park for the long-term.

If Lennon had become available for free in the summer, he would surely have had a lot of suitors.
But by bringing him in on loan, Newcastle are effectively getting the winger on a try-before-you-buy deal, and if all goes to plan, then Lennon could be kept at St. James’ Park for years rather than months.
